Portland Piano Company, formed by Mitch Paola and his staff in 2013, is a company built on the strong conviction that their long history of supporting the local music community must continue. When Sherman Clay announced they would be closing their store in Portland, a difficult decision for all involved, Mitch and his crew unanimously agreed without hesitation that their desire was to remain committed to music and helping people looking for the perfect piano for sale in Portland and the surrounding areas. Plans for a new store began to take shape soon after. It was the next logical step for Mitch whose passion for music led to his decision to join the family business, Moe\u2019s Pianos, 30 years ago. Moe\u2019s Pianos is named after Maurice (Moe) Schuster, Mitch\u2019s grandfather, a violinist with the symphony who loved to rebuild pianos.<\/p>\n
In 1989 Moe\u2019s Pianos became part of the Sherman Clay family and Mitch stayed on as General Manager, a position he held for 25 years. After 30 years on Southeast Woodstock, Sherman Clay\/Moe\u2019s Pianos moved to the newly developed Pearl District in 2003, situating itself in a beautifully renovated 18,000 square foot building, complete with piano workshop and a 125 seat recital room. Upon completion of their lease in 2013, the owners of Sherman Clay – a family owned business since 1870 – ultimately decided not to renew their lease, downsize their operation and leave the Portland market.<\/p>\n

He began playing drums in church and became a multi-instrumentalist by the time he graduated high school in Drain, Oregon. Justin received his B.M. in Music Education from Wayland Baptist University in Texas, where he taught all levels of band and general music in a small, rural school district. When he relocated to Oregon to be closer to family, Justin decided to hang up his conducting baton and use his expertise to help fellow musicians find their voice. He came to Portland Piano Company excited to combine his passion for music with his love of customer service. As general manager of our Portland store, he is ultimately responsible for ensuring that every interaction we have with our customers meets our high expectations for service and professionalism. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, being outdoors, and making great music. Growing up in the music and entertainment filled city of Las Vegas, Matt flourished in guitar starting at the young age of seven. Soon after, he developed a love for choir and live performance, whether it was with a full ensemble or with various rock bands. After high school, Matt studied audio engineering at the Musicians Institute of Hollywood. Music has taken him around the world including China, where he was an Italian Gondolier, and Germany, to work as a studio musician. Matthew later landed in Ventura, California where he was the House Musician for a local Improv group playing live shows every weekend. There, he met his now wife and mother of his three beautiful children to whom he sings and teaches music. Some of Matt’s hobbies include hosting a podcast\/radioshow and going on adventures exploring the Pacific Northwest with his family.<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n
